University auction offers vehicles, office and dorm materials

It isn’t often that a local auction could net you a number of cars, appliances, and heavy-duty machinery, but the Pittsburg State University Surplus Vehicle and Materials Auction offers more than the usual fare.

The 34th annual auction will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, in the yards by the east campus apartments near Ford and Homer Streets. The sale, which this year includes 12 used state vehicles, 25 computers, and items from student housing including refrigerators, sofas, and air conditioners, makes it possible for the community to get some great deals.

“It’s a big event,” said Wanda Endicott, director of custodial and general services at PSU. “We’ve had more widespread advertising this year, so we’re expecting this to be the biggest auction we’ve had. There are a lot of things that people can get great deals on.”

Other items included in the auction include a 2002 Hustler 60-inch, zero-turn lawnmower; large printing and printer press equipment; water heaters; stools; sinks; and more than 300 metal folding chairs. Funds from the auction, which last year made $25,000, go toward the PSU Physical Plant’s operating expenses.

The auction will be presented by Sam Downs, a Springfield (Mo.) auctioneer. For more information on the items up for sale, visit Downs’ Web site at
