Pittsburg Community Band performs summer concerts on the Oval
There’s more than the sounds of chirping crickets in the air during evenings this summer at Pittsburg State University.
The Pittsburg Community Band will give their first concert of the summer at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, on the Oval. The band consists of local musicians of all ages who enjoy playing in a musical ensemble. The program includes marches, standard band repertoire and show tunes. As always, the band will conclude with an arrangement of “America, the Beautiful” by Carmen Dragon. Dr. Craig Fuchs, PSU Director of Bands, conducts the group.
This is the first in a series of five concerts the band will perform during the summer. Concerts are set for 7 p.m. every Thursday in June on the Oval. The final concert will be at 3 p.m. on July 4 as part of the Fourth of July celebration at Lincoln Park in Pittsburg. The entire community is invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of free band music. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in Kelce Auditorium on the campus of PSU.
