Junior Jungle Day rescheduled
The average high temperature for March 10 in Pittsburg is 56 degrees. That may be one reason Pittsburg State University’s Office of Admission chose that date to reschedule Junior Jungle Day, a time for high school juniors and their parents to visit the campus.
On Jan. 15, massive amounts of ice, sleet and snow forced the Admission Office to cancel the event, for which several hundred had registered.
Despite the snow and ice, one hardy family from Olathe and another equally intrepid family from Ohio actually made it to campus that weekend. The Ohioans arrived on Sunday, according to Heather Eckstein in the Office of Admission. Fortunately, they were able to tag along with some of the international orientation groups conducted that weekend. Eckstein said the Ohio family was impressed not only by the campus and its programs, but also with the extra effort that people on campus made to accommodate them, particularly in the KTC where their son is thinking of a major.
If the March weather in Pittsburg is anything near normal, high school juniors and their families may be able to sense a hint of spring in the air as they tour the campus and learn about the programs that Pittsburg State offers.
The schedule for Junior Jungle Day on March 10 will be the same as was planned for Jan. 15. For more information, call the Admission Office at 620-235-4251. For the Junior Jungle Day schedule, go to http://www.pittstate.edu/admit/JuniorJungleDay.html on the Admission Office Web site.
