Memorial Day ceremony scheduled at PSU Veterans Memorial
Although he has been busy in recent days directing the state’s response efforts in the Greensburg, Kan., tornado disaster, Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the adjutant general of Kansas, will find time to pay tribute to veterans at a Memorial Day ceremony at the PSU Veterans Memorial. The 10:30 a.m. ceremony on Monday, May 28, at the PSU Veterans Memorial, 1909 S. Rouse, is open to the public.
Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting oversees the administration and training of more than 7,700 soldiers and airmen in the Kansas Army and Air National Guard. He also serves as the director of Kansas Emergency Management, a division of the Kansas Adjutant General’s Office.
In addition to the keynote address by Maj. Gen. Bunting, the ceremony will feature bagpipe music, patriotic music performed by the Girard High School band, a grand march of area veterans posts’ flags and the dedication of 78 engraved memorial pavers. Also during the ceremony, a new computerized information kiosk will be unveiled and the new Crossland Plaza for memorial pavers will be dedicated.
Parking for the ceremony will be available at the nearby Bicknell Sports Complex and the Kansas Technology Center. Shuttles will run from the parking lots to the memorial. Those transporting individuals with limited mobility are welcome to drop their passengers at the street entrance to the memorial. There will be no parking available in the memorial parking lot.
